The Spanish indefinite articles are used to indicate someone or something not defined and only in the singular.

First rule

  • A is used before a word with a consonant
  • A is used when the vowel U sounds like a consonant

A car / A bag

Un carro / Una maleta

Second rule

An is used before a word with a vowel
An is used when the sound of H is mute
