The past continuous in Spanish or past progressive is formed using the verb Estar in Spanish or Portuguese (To be verb in English) along with the main verb with its gerund ending.

How to form the past continuous in Spanish?

The following rule must be followed:

Personal pronoun + To be verb (in Spanish) conjugated in the simple past + Verb ending in IENDO, ANDO, ENDO in Spanish and ANDO, ENDO in Portuguese and Complement.
